about

parody of "New York" by JaRule

I live in New Jersey but I visit New York quite a bit. I decided to write this song after the second time I accidentally found myself on a bridge going into Brooklyn.

lyrics

(chorus 1)
I got a hundred-twenty parking tickets
While I was in New York (New York)
I seen a semi that didn't quite fit
On the streets of New York (New York)
I paid a hundred dollars for a hamburger
While I was in New York (New York)
But only paid twenty bucks for a Rolex
On the streets of New York (New York)
And I know

(verse 1)
I've visited Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Staten
Island, the Bronx and Queens, now it's time to leave
But I do believe I'm goin' back to see
A couple hundred of my closest friends on New Year's Eve
My attire, is outdated by two weeks
My left shoe squeaks, my right shoe reeks
I guess I'll have to go back to the city
And pay another seven fifty to the highway committee
Look, how they get around, amazingly
They survive, cabs drivin' at the speed of sound
Tryin' to find a couple people to get in their car
While proudly showin' off their cab's latest battles scar
I don't really understand how the trains get around
I'm a tourist and usually end up gettin' off uptown
Leave me out there lookin' for Mr. Rourke
'Cause it's a fantasy up here in New York

(chorus 2)
There's a hundred cabs on every block
Right here in New York (New York)
Unless you need one then you'll probably have to walk
All over New York (New York)
And you can't drive without seein' hot chicks
Walk around in New York (New York)
I got a hundred dings a hundred nicks
While I was in New York (New York)

(verse 2)
Maybe I'll take in a movie today
Hey there's a movie theater, thirty bucks for a matinee
And I was gonna get some popcorn, but then I saw
The price and figured I could get a years worth of porn
And everybody's walkin' 'round like their feets on fire
And if you talk to them they treat you like you're wearin' a wire
Not me I drive stunningly, with my hand on the
Horn like no way is your ass gettin' in front of me
True story I'm drivin' from the west
Hand to go north but I couldn't turn left
I went straight without looking, and now I can't go
Back because I'm goin' on a bridge into Brooklyn
I like to go block to block
And see how close I can get to the people on the crosswalk
Seen street signs hangin' after the turn
It's like "No, you wanted to go that way, when will you learn?"

I crossed a hundred tolls a hundred bridges
While I was in New York (New York)
I seen a pimp with a hundred bitches
And one was way too short (too short)
I had to double-park and didn't get a ticket
So I give thanks to You, Lord (You Lord)
But the guy I blocked told me where I could stick it
Right here in New York (New York)

So you live in the city, that must be nice
Dependin' on where you're livin', you might get lice
Found a ten by ten apartment by word of mouth
Your rent for two or three months could probably buy a house
Now the twenty-third floor is your new hub, but when the stupid
Elevator's out it's a sadistic health club
Streets show no mercy, and you know that they say that
You deserved it whenever you get lost in New Jersey
The traffic in the tunnel, it gets me ticked
They randomly close lanes down just for kicks
And there's bridges every mile that barely function
'Cause every single damn one of 'em is under construction
People beg for money with a certain flair
I caught a subtle hint of some vomit in the air
And it won't come as a surprise, no way
When I tell you I was robbed by a Girl Scout today

(chorus 4)
I seen a hundred people take a leak
While I was in New York (New York)
And you can tell the way the people speak
That I must be in New York (New York)
I found a hundred places to buy pot
While I was in New York (New York)
But I could never find a parking spot
While I was in New York (New York)
